Counselor Licensure and Scope of Practice in Michigan: Historical Perspectives and Current Practice

A MUST-HAVE FOR EVERY LLPC/LPC!

Dr. Sara Sue Schaeffer and Dr. Irene Mass Ametrano

It is imperative that counselors understand their licensing law and scope of practice so that they neither practice outside their scope nor allow it to be limited by others. All Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and counselor educators should clearly understand the limits of their scope, and should also advocate for counselors' right to fully practice their profession including all aspects of their scope of practice.

  • *Now includes passage of the 2019 Counselor Licensure Law

  • For professional reference

  • Documentation of LLPC's/LPC's scope of practice according to Michigan Law

  • Useful when dealing with employers and insurance companies
